1 review for Marshall MG15FX

  1. Parti

I compared it with the Orange Micro Terror (on 2 humbackers and Celestion V30 with Metal Muff distortion). Poor clean, but when turning up the gain it shows specific claws – definitely high-gain sound. There is an effects loop, BUT – after plugging in the headphones, the loudspeaker DOES NOT DISCONNECT (it disconnects in the OMT).

For me personally, it is important to be able to play quietly on headphones, so this amplifier is out of the way. Apart from that, clean is too bad to use it, and buying an amplifier for that only to play over distortion is a moderate deal.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What are the steps to properly set up and connect my Marshall MG15FX guitar amp with my electric guitar and audio interface for recording purposes?

Setting up your Marshall MG15FX guitar amp for recording is easy. Here's a step-by-step guide:

1. Connect your electric guitar to the input jack of the Marshall MG15FX amplifier. Make sure it fits securely and snugly.

2. Plug one end of a standard 6.3mm instrument cable into the output (headphone) jack of your audio interface. The other end should go into the 'LINE IN' or 'AUX IN' port of your computer. Check your audio interface manual for exact port names if you're unsure.

3. If your audio interface has a direct monitoring feature, enable it. This will allow you to hear yourself through both your headphones and speakers simultaneously while recording.

4. Open up your Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) software like Ableton Live, Logic Pro, etc., and set it up for recording. Choose the correct input source as per your audio interface manual. Usually, this will be something like "Input 1" or "AUX IN".

5. Hit record, strum your guitar, and start laying down tracks! Remember to monitor your levels so you don't distort your recording.

6. If you want to use effects while recording, turn on the built-in effects of the Marshall MG15FX amplifier such as reverb or delay by pressing the corresponding button on the amp.

7. Once done with recording, simply disconnect everything in reverse order: audio interface -> headphone jack of amp -> electric guitar.

Note: To avoid feedback when using microphones during live performances, make sure to turn off the direct monitoring feature and mute the Marshall MG15FX amplifier's built-in effects while recording vocals or other instruments with a mic.

How does the digital effects loop in the Marshall MG15FX differ from traditional analog loops, and what benefits does it offer for guitar players?

The digital effects loop in the Marshall MG15FX is different from traditional analog loops in that it uses digital processing to send and receive signals. In a traditional analog loop, an external effects pedal or unit is connected directly to the amplifier's input/output jacks, allowing for placement of effects before or after the preamp stage. However, with the MG15FX, the digital effects loop allows for sending signals through a separate digital processing unit that can be placed either before or after the amp's preamp stage via USB connection. This digital approach offers several benefits for guitar players:

1. Greater flexibility in effects placement: With the MG15FX, effects can be placed virtually anywhere in the signal chain due to the versatility of digital processing. This means that guitarists have more control over their tone and can achieve unique sonic textures not possible with traditional analog loops. More space-saving: The digital effects loop allows for multiple effects pedals or units to be combined into a single device, saving valuable floor space in live performance setups. This is especially beneficial for guitarists who prefer to keep their pedalboards compact and streamlined. Better compatibility with other devices: Digital processing also offers greater compatibility with other digital devices, such as computer-based recording software or MIDI controllers. This enables guitarists to integrate their effects into more complex setups and workflows. Improved tone preservation: The use of digital processing in the MG15FX's effects loop ensures that tonality is preserved throughout the signal chain, as there are no analog degradations or loss of high-frequency content. This results in a more transparent and clear sound. In summary, the digital effects loop in the Marshall MG15FX offers guitar players greater flexibility, space-saving, compatibility, and tone preservation compared to traditional analog loops. As such, it is an attractive feature for modern musicians who prefer to work with digital devices and are looking for a more versatile and integrated solution for their effects pedals and units.

What unique features does the Marshall MG15FX offer that set it apart from other 15-watt guitar amplifiers?

The Marshall MG15FX stands out among other 15-watt guitar amplifiers with its built-in digital effects, including reverb, chorus, and delay. These effects are not commonly found in amps of this size, making the MG15FX a versatile and convenient choice for gigging musicians who want to add some extra flavor to their sound without carrying around additional pedals. Additionally, the amplifier's compact design and battery-powered option make it easy to transport and use on the go, making it an ideal choice for rehearsals, jam sessions, or small gigs where space is limited. Overall, the combination of digital effects, portability, and affordability makes the Marshall MG15FX a standout option in the 15-watt amplifier category.
