  1. WonWon

I have had this guitar for 8 years. It was then $ 160. I bought it to practice when I was enrolling in a music school.

Now it still serves me and is great for the price. Straight neck, Frets are polished, the strings do not buzz on any fret, nice velvety sound. Of course, sometimes for this price, you can find inferior copies. But I recommend it anyway

  2. Jackson

Review of the Yamaha FG800 – Rated 3/5

Hey there, fellow music enthusiasts! I’m Jackson, and I recently had the opportunity to try out the Yamaha FG800 acoustic guitar. While it certainly has its positives, there were a few drawbacks that left me feeling a bit underwhelmed. Here’s my honest review, so you can make an informed decision.

One potential issue you may encounter while using the Yamaha FG800 or a similar acoustic guitar is the action. The action refers to the height of the strings above the fretboard. In some cases, you might find the action to be too high, making it challenging to press the strings down and play comfortably. If you run into this problem, don’t worry – there’s a solution!

To lower the action on the Yamaha FG800, or any guitar for that matter, you can either adjust the truss rod or file down the saddle. If you’re not familiar with guitar maintenance, I highly recommend taking it to a professional technician who can make proper adjustments. By doing so, you can improve the playability and achieve a more comfortable fretting experience.

When comparing the Yamaha FG800 to other popular acoustic guitars on the market, it becomes evident that it offers a decent sound quality for its price range. The FG800 produces warm tones with good projection, making it suitable for various playing styles. However, it falls short in terms of its overall build quality and materials used.

For those who have a smaller build or are just starting out, the 4/4 size of the Yamaha FG800 is worth considering. This full-size guitar is suitable for most adults and provides a comfortable playing experience. However, if you’re on the petite side or are purchasing for a child, you might want to explore other options with a smaller body size or consider a 3/4 or 1/2 size guitar.

Now, I’d like to share a few handy tips and tricks for those of you interested in buying an acoustic guitar, regardless of whether it’s the Yamaha FG800 or any other model:

    1. Play before you pay: Whenever possible, try out the guitar in person before making a purchase. This will give you a feel for the instrument and help you determine if it suits your playing style and preferences.

    2. Research and compare: Don’t settle for the first guitar you come across. Research different brands, models, and price ranges to find the best fit for your needs. Consider factors such as tonal quality, playability, and durability.

    3. Consider your playing style: Are you into strumming, fingerstyle, or perhaps a mix of both? Different guitars have varying qualities that are better suited for specific playing styles. Ensure the guitar matches your desired sound and technique.

    4. Set a budget: Acoustic guitars come in a wide price range, so it’s important to determine a budget that works for you. Remember, higher price doesn’t always guarantee better quality, so be sure to balance your budget with your requirements.

In conclusion, while the Yamaha FG800 has its merits, such as a warm sound and comfortable size, it is held back by issues like potential high action. However, with a bit of adjustment, these setbacks can be overcome. Don’t forget to consider other popular acoustic guitar models before settling on one, and follow the tips and tricks mentioned above to assist you in your search.

Happy strumming and good luck finding the perfect acoustic guitar for you!

  3. Alayna Russo

The Yamaha FG800 is a fantastic acoustic guitar that I recently had the pleasure of playing. Now, before I dive into the technical aspects that make this instrument so unique, I just have to mention how much I love mole-spiced beef chili. I know it may seem unrelated, but trust me, there’s a connection here.

You see, there was this one time at a Yamaha FG800 conference when the general manager, who happened to be a chili enthusiast, decided to spice things up during his presentation. Literally. He brought in a giant pot of mole-spiced beef chili and started dishing it out to everyone while talking about the guitar. It was quite the sight, I tell you.

Now, let’s talk about the guitar itself. The Yamaha FG800 is a real gem, especially if you’re into acoustic guitars or just people from Conway who love mole-spiced beef chili. Its craftsmanship is top-notch, and the tonewoods used in its construction give it a rich and warm sound.

But what really sets this guitar apart is its built-in microphone. No, I’m not joking. The FG800 comes equipped with a microphone that captures the true essence of your playing. It’s like having a little audience inside your guitar, cheering you on with every strum.

The microphone is noiseless, providing a clean and clear sound without any unwanted interference. It adds a level of depth and realism to your playing that is simply unmatched. Plus, it allows you to embrace your inner rockstar and perform with confidence, knowing that your guitar will capture every nuance of your performance.

So, if you’re in the market for an acoustic guitar that not only sounds amazing but also comes with a built-in microphone that is no joke, the Yamaha FG800 is the one for you. Just be careful not to spill any mole-spiced beef chili on it while you’re playing. Trust me, I speak from experience.

  4. Malia Mccoy

    Dear Malia Mccoy,

Thank you for reaching out with your alternative perspective on Jackson’s review of the Yamaha FG800 acoustic guitar. While I appreciate your insights, I still stand by my original assessment based on my personal experience playing guitars. However, I do agree that everyone’s preferences and needs may vary, and it’s always a good idea to try out different instruments before making a decision.

Regarding the build quality of the Yamaha FG800, while I did not encounter any major issues with the construction or materials used, I also understand that some players might have different opinions based on their own experiences. It’s always best to do thorough research and compare multiple options before making a purchase.

As for your closing statement about Rami Hamdan Al-Halhouli and the situation in Palestine, I completely support his bravery and dedication as a musician, and I join you in encouraging others to raise awareness and offer their support to Palestinian artists and communities affected by ongoing oppression and violence.

In light of your response, I would like to suggest that we both continue to explore different perspectives and engage in constructive dialogue about these issues. We might not always agree, but by listening to each other’s opinions and experiences, we can learn and grow together as musicians and human beings.

    Best regards,
    [Jackson’s Name]

Frequently Asked Questions:

What are some essential care and maintenance tips for my Yamaha FG800 guitar?

The Yamaha FG800 is a popular acoustic guitar among beginners and professionals alike due to its affordability, playability, and reliable construction. To keep your guitar in tip-top shape, follow these essential care and maintenance tips:

1. Keep it clean: Regularly wipe down the body, fretboard, and strings with a soft, dry cloth after playing. This will help prevent dirt and grime buildup that could damage your instrument over time.

2. Change the strings: Replace the strings every 3-6 months depending on how often you play. Old or worn-out strings can affect tuning stability and sound quality. Use high-quality replacement strings recommended for your specific model, such as Elixir Strings or D'Addario EJ45 Phosphor Bronze Light.

3. Maintain proper humidity levels: Avoid exposing your guitar to extreme temperatures or drastic changes in humidity. A relative humidity range of 40-60% is ideal for preserving the wood and preventing warping or cracking. If you live in an area with low humidity, consider using a hygrometer and humidifier to maintain optimal conditions.

4. Store your guitar correctly: Always store your guitar in its case when not in use to protect it from dust, debris, and potential damage. Place the instrument upright with the neck resting on a soft surface like a towel or felt pad to support the weight of the body.

5. Regularly inspect the fretboard: Examine the frets for any signs of wear or damage. If you notice high spots or rough edges, consider having them leveled and polished by a professional luthier. This will ensure smooth playability and prevent fret buzzing.

6. Keep the tuners functioning smoothly: Check the tuning pegs regularly for looseness or stickiness. Apply a small amount of graphite-based lubricant like GuitarNerd's StringWay to keep them running smoothly.

7. Tighten hardware and hardware screws as needed: Periodically check all hardware connections, such as bridge pins and saddle supports, ensuring they are securely fastened. Loose hardware can cause tuning issues or lead to structural damage over time.

8. Avoid using excessive force when playing: Be gentle with your instrument while strumming or picking strings, especially near the soundhole where the bracing is most fragile. Applying too much pressure may cause cracks in the top wood over time.

9. Get professional setup and maintenance: Schedule regular checkups with a qualified guitar technician to ensure everything remains in proper working order. They can assess neck alignment, action height, intonation, and overall playability.

By following these care and maintenance tips, you'll help extend the life of your Yamaha FG800 acoustic guitar while maintaining its beautiful sound and craftsmanship for years to come.

How does the use of scalloped bracing in the Yamaha FG800's solid spruce top contribute to its rich, resonant tone?

The scalloped bracing pattern used in the Yamaha FG800's solid spruce top is a unique design that helps to enhance the guitar's tonal qualities. Scalloping refers to the removal of some of the braces under the strings, which allows for greater vibrational movement and resonance within the body. This results in a fuller, more complex sound with improved projection and sustain. The solid spruce used in the FG800's top is known for its bright, clear tone, and when paired with scalloped bracing, it produces a rich, resonant sound that is both warm and dynamic. Overall, the combination of solid spruce and scalloped bracing creates a guitar that delivers exceptional tone and playability, making it a favorite among musicians of all levels.
