Description

Dave Smith Instruments Prophet Rev2 Synthesizer is a modern and versatile polyphonic synthesizer that has been designed to suit the needs of musicians, producers, and synthesizer enthusiasts. This synthesizer is a continuation of the Prophet series by Dave Smith Instruments, which is known for its excellence in sound quality and synthesis capabilities. The Prophet Rev2 boasts a host of features that make it one of the most sought after polyphonic synthesizers in the market.

One of the major improvements of the Prophet Rev2 is the addition of new oscillators, filters, and effects. The oscillator section features two digital oscillators per voice, each capable of producing a variety of waveforms, including sine, square, sawtooth, and pulse. The oscillator also comes with a sub-oscillator and a noise generator, which can be blended with the main oscillator to produce a wide range of sounds.

The filters of the Prophet Rev2 are also noteworthy. It comes with a 2-pole state-variable filter that can be switched between high-pass, low-pass, and bandpass modes. The filter can also be modulated by the LFO, envelope, or velocity, giving you more control over the sound. Additionally, the Prophet Rev2 features a slew limiter, which helps to soften the sound of the filter for a more analog-like character.

The modulation section of the Prophet Rev2 is also very impressive. It comes with two LFOs per voice, each with multiple waveforms for easy sound shaping. The Prophet Rev2 has four envelopes per voice, which can be used to modulate various parameters such as filter cutoff, oscillator pitch, and LFO rate. Additionally, it features a 16-slot modulation matrix that allows you to route any source to any destination for increased modulation possibilities.

The Prophet Rev2 also features a built-in effects section that includes delay, reverb, chorus, and distortion. The effects section is well-designed and can be used to add character and depth to your sound.

The Prophet Rev2 has been designed with ease of use in mind. It features a comprehensive front panel layout that makes it easy to access all the parameters without diving deep into menus. The synth also comes with an arpeggiator and a step sequencer, which can be used to add rhythm and motion to your sound.

Overall, the Dave Smith Instruments Prophet Rev2 Synthesizer is a versatile and powerful polyphonic synthesizer that can be used by musicians, producers, and synthesizer enthusiasts. It comes with a wide range of features that make it perfect for sound design, live performance, and studio production. If you’re looking for a high-quality synthesizer with excellent sound quality, the Prophet Rev2 is definitely worth checking out.

The keys themselves are quite ok, although I think the older versions were better contoured. However, I have a big reservation about free programs. After replacing the motherboard in the computer, it is not possible to use them again. What’s more, the companies cooperating with M-Audio have me deeply behind in this respect and in any technical support. If you focus on the full contents of the box, you will be disappointed.

I recently purchased the Dave Smith Instruments Prophet Rev2 from this online shop, and I must say, my experience was less than stellar. My overall rating would be a measly 2 out of 5 possible. Let me tell you why.

Firstly, I was swayed by the promise of power efficiency in the Prophet Rev2, with hopes that it would somehow save the planet. Well, let’s just say this synthesizer is no superhero. Sure, it may sip a bit less power than some other models, but it’s hardly going to single-handedly reverse climate change. So much for being an eco-warrior, Prophet Rev2.

Now, let’s talk about the sarcastic tone you requested. Well, here’s a joke for you: How many synthesizer enthusiasts from Carrollton does it take to change a lightbulb? None, because they’re all too busy tweaking knobs and making strange noises with their Prophet Rev2s!

But let’s not forget about the serious stuff. The Prophet Rev2 caters to both amateur and professional use. For amateurs, it offers a user-friendly interface and a variety of presets to play around with. It’s like having a musical playground at your fingertips. However, for professionals, this synthesizer truly shines. Its versatility, powerful sound engine, and extensive modulation options make it a dream come true for those who want to create unique and complex sounds.

And of course, we can’t forget about the MIDI connections in the Prophet Rev2. It boasts a MIDI input, output, and thru, allowing for seamless integration with other MIDI-enabled devices. It’s like the Prophet Rev2 is playing matchmaker, bringing together synthesizers and controllers from all walks of life.

So, despite my less-than-impressed experience with this online shop, I must admit that the Prophet Rev2 does have its redeeming qualities. Just don’t expect it to save the planet or change lightbulbs anytime soon.

"What distinguishes the Dave Smith Instruments Prophet Rev2 from previous models in terms of its analog filter design and oscillator features?"

The Dave Smith Instruments Prophet Rev2 stands out from its predecessors in two significant ways - its advanced analog filter design and expanded oscillator features. Firstly, the filter on the Rev2 is a dual-filter design that combines classic Curtis Causey filters with a new 24dB/octave resonant low-pass filter designed by Dave Smith himself. This innovative filter configuration delivers rich, complex harmonics and unprecedented sonic versatility unrivaled in previous Prophet models. Secondly, the Rev2 boasts an expanded oscillator section that features two newly-designed analog oscillators with a wider frequency range, improved waveform accuracy, and enhanced sync and ring modulation capabilities. Overall, these enhancements give the Prophet Rev2 a greater tonal palette and sonic character than previous models in the series.
