Yamaha Reface CP Synthesizer: Bringing the Classic Keyboard Sounds to Today’s Music Scene

Yamaha has been a leading name in the music industry for decades, offering a wide range of musical instruments and equipment for professionals and amateurs alike. Among Yamaha’s latest releases is the Reface CP synthesizer, a portable keyboard that delivers the classic sounds of vintage electric pianos and keyboards in a compact and easy-to-use package.

The Reface CP comes with six classic keyboard sounds, including the iconic Rhodes and Wurlitzer electric pianos, as well as clavinet, CP80, toy piano, and DX7-style FM synthesizer. Each sound is meticulously crafted to capture the original characteristics of the instruments, with detailed adjustments to the EQ, tremolo, chorus, and other effects. The result is a rich and authentic sound that evokes the golden age of electric pianos and keyboards.

The keyboard itself is small and lightweight, perfect for musicians on the go or cramped studio spaces. It features a 37-note mini keyboard, which may take some getting used to for those accustomed to playing on full-size keys. However, the mini keyboard is surprisingly responsive and expressive, with velocity sensitivity and aftertouch capabilities. The keys are also backlit, making it easy to play in dimly lit environments or on stage.

One of the Reface CP’s standout features is its interface, which is designed to be intuitive and user-friendly. The front panel features a simple layout of knobs, buttons, and sliders, each with its own dedicated function. There are no menus or submenus to navigate, making it quick and easy to dial in your desired sound. The synth also features a built-in speaker and battery operation, allowing you to play anywhere, anytime.

In addition to its classic keyboard sounds, the Reface CP also offers a variety of sound-shaping tools for creative exploration. There are five different effect types, including phaser, flanger, and delay, which can be combined and adjusted to create unique and personalized sounds. There is also a built-in looper, which can record up to 1.5 minutes of your playing and layer it with other sounds for a full-band effect.

The Reface CP also offers MIDI connectivity, allowing you to connect to other devices and control external instruments. There is also a USB port, which can be used for recording and transferring sounds to and from your computer. Yamaha has also released a companion iOS app, which provides even more control and customization options for the Reface CP.

Overall, the Yamaha Reface CP synthesizer is a fantastic addition to any musician’s arsenal, whether you’re a seasoned professional or a beginner. Its authentic vintage sounds, intuitive interface, and portable design make it a versatile tool for studio recording, live performance, and practice sessions. The Reface CP is a testament to Yamaha’s dedication to innovation and quality, and is sure to please even the most discerning keyboard players.

1 review for Yamaha Reface CP

  1. Homer Richardson

Handy, extremely light, 4-octave instrument with an attractive blue color. Contains the sounds from Motif, useful for the synthesizer, piano, and string sections (neglecting the harpsichord and pipe organ which sound artificial).

Easy to use. It is well suited as a computer control keyboard (dedicated to work with Cubase) and as the 2nd or 3rd manual in larger keyboard sets (then it can be controlled via MIDI from a larger keyboard).
