Description
The Vox AC15C1 Custom is an all tube 15 watt combo built around two channels, Normal and Top Boost, and a single 12 inch Celestion G12M Greenback. Fifteen watts of valve power is the sweet spot for players who want breakup at usable volume: push the amp and it compresses and sings rather than staying clean and stiff. The Greenback’s warm low mid response rounds off the top end, so the chime stays present without turning harsh.
Top Boost is where the classic voice lives, with a bright, sparkling top end that sits well in a mix and responds to picking dynamics. Normal gives you a fuller, more neutral base for pedals. Spring reverb and tremolo are onboard, so you get movement and atmosphere without adding a single box to your board. Note that there is no effects loop, so time based pedals run in front of the amp and interact with the preamp gain.
Connectivity covers the practical basics: one quarter inch input per channel, a footswitch input, and two extension or external speaker outputs so you can run a second cabinet. At 22 kg it is manageable for a single carry but worth planning for if you gig weekly. It suits recording players, blues and indie guitarists, and anyone chasing edge of breakup tone at club volume.
Compared with other 15 watt valve combos in its class, the AC15C1 Custom is simpler and heavier, trading an effects loop and modern switching for a distinctive, instantly recognisable voice. If you want a neutral platform for a complex pedalboard, another amp may suit you better; if you want character first, this is the one.
