Description
The Oberheim TEO-5 packs genuine Oberheim analog voice architecture into a compact five-voice polysynth. It is built for players who want classic subtractive synthesis with a modern edge, and for producers who need warm, characterful pads, basses, brass and leads without a sprawling keyboard taking over the studio.
Each voice pairs two discrete VCOs with a sub-oscillator and noise, so you can build thick unison stacks, simple two-oscillator patches or noise-driven percussion. Through-zero FM opens up metallic, bell-like and percussive textures that go well beyond standard analog subtractive sounds. The classic SEM two-pole state-variable filter is the heart of the instrument, with continuous morphing between low-pass, notch and high-pass, plus a dedicated band-pass mode. Sweeping that filter while notes ring out is where the TEO-5 feels most alive.
The 44 Fatar semi-weighted full-size keys respond to velocity and channel aftertouch, giving you expressive control over filter movement, vibrato and modulation as you play. A 64-step polyphonic step sequencer and multi-mode arpeggiator turn the instrument into an idea machine, useful for sketching basslines, evolving patterns and layered sequences directly from the front panel.
Connectivity covers the essentials: MIDI In, Out and Thru, USB-B, stereo quarter-inch audio outputs, a headphone out, and inputs for sustain and expression pedals. In its five-voice analog class, some rivals lean on extra voices or onboard effects, while the TEO-5 keeps its focus on the SEM filter, through-zero FM and hands-on programming. It suits keyboardists, synth enthusiasts and studio composers who value tone and immediacy.
