Description
The Subsequent 37 puts a true subtractive analog voice under your fingers. Its 37 semi-weighted keys with velocity and aftertouch let you shape notes through touch, not menus. Two variable waveshape VCOs, a square wave sub-oscillator, and an analog noise generator give you a broad raw tone palette. Play it monophonically for powerful basses and leads, or switch to 2-note duo-paraphonic mode to add intervals and simple harmonies.
The Moog Ladder Filter sits at the heart of the sound. Six, twelve, eighteen, and twenty-four dB/oct slopes, plus Multidrive, let you move from smooth and round to aggressive and saturated. Multidrive adds grit, presence, and weight without extra gear. This section suits players who want to sculpt tone in real time, whether for deep bass, biting leads, or textured effects.
On the sequencing side, a 64-step programmable step sequencer and arpeggiator turn short ideas into evolving patterns. MIDI In and Out, USB MIDI, 1/4-inch audio in and out, a headphone out, and CV inputs for pitch, filter, volume, and KB gate make it easy to connect to a DAW, hardware synths, or a modular rig. You get hands-on control for live performance and studio work, with the flexibility to stay in the box or go cable-heavy.
Compared with other analog synths in its class, the Subsequent 37 favors performance and immediate sound design over full polyphony. Some alternatives offer more simultaneous notes or wider modulation options, but few combine a Moog Ladder Filter with Multidrive, an expressive 37-key keyboard, and CV patch points in such a focused instrument. If you need full polyphonic chords, a different synth may fit better. If you want a monophonic and paraphonic analog instrument that rewards playing and real time tweaking, the Subsequent 37 is a compelling choice.
